KAYSVILLE — Two people were found dead early Sunday in a Kaysville home.

Police responded at 2:13 a.m. to a welfare check at a Kaysville home, 220 S. Christine Way, after a newspaper delivery person reported numerous uncollected newspapers outside and lights on inside the home.

Officers observed an individual inside the residence who didn't respond to knocks on the door, according to Kaysville Police Lt. Kenton Pies. Forced entry was made into the home, and police discovered a man's body in the living room and a woman's body in a bathroom.

Police identified the victims as Jeffery Wayman, 72, and Judith Wayman, 68.

The man's ex-wife and son were contacted by police and called to the scene. She said Judith was in the early stages of Alzheimer's, and Jeffery was her primary caregiver. She believes Jeffery died first and Judith didn't know what to do.

Police said they had possibly been dead for a week.

The Kaysville Fire Department also responded to the incident and found no signs of carbon monoxide.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, police said. The victims were taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of their deaths.

Since when does a welfare check take place at 2:30 am?

Considerations: Family members and friends sometimes become worried about the well-being of a person in their lives. They get concerned after an individual is not heard from or seen for a period of time.

Identification: A police welfare check occurs when a report is made to law enforcement about an individual who may be in some sort of peril, usually in that person's residence.

Two people found dead in different rooms in a situation where poisonous invisible gas isn't the culprit usually means foul play? It may be the public isn't in danger but someone did something. I hope all family were notified since the house is identified in the article through the photo.

A welfare check would take place at 2:30am since that is when the NEWSPAPER CARRIER delivers and would have called police.

At the age these poor folks are, and the woman having Alzheimer's, it is quite likely she would not have known what to do if her husband passed away before her.

Sad, sad situation!

Makes me want to take the daily newspaper again. Who knows how long until my house would be checked.
