WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was hospitalized Thursday night after police say he was shot in the leg.
About 9:47 p.m., two men got off a TRAX train in West Valley City and began walking toward Taylorsville. As they walked through the parking lot at Valley Fair Mall, they got into an argument with two other men, who followed them on foot up 3800 South, police said.
One of the men who followed pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, hitting a 19-year-old in the leg, said West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor. A stray round pierced a nearby apartment but struck no one.
The two suspects fled on foot.
The victim wandered to the Somerset Village Apartments, 3810 S. Redwood Road, where a resident found him and called for help. The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries to his leg.
"The victims weren't overly cooperative," Taylor said, adding that they have not provided police with much information about the incident or the suspects.
The suspects were described as Hispanic men in their mid-20s. One wore a dark ball cap; the other wore a white T-shirt and a gray ball cap with a white brim.
Detectives believe the incident was gang-related.
