DRAPER — One person was killed Thursday evening in an accident involving seven vehicles at a Draper intersection.
Police say the driver of a white pickup truck was speeding down Lone Peak Parkway, ran a red light at 12300 South and struck another vehicle, killing the driver. The vehicle also contained a child, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Five other vehicles were also impacted, and multiple people were hospitalized for minor injuries.
"It was a little scary," said Stella Iriye, who was in her car nearby when the accident happened. "First thing everybody was doing was getting out of the car to help the people that were injured. So you saw a lot of good people out there helping."
The driver responsible for the crash was also taken to the hospital in critical condition and was later stabilized. Police did not identify him Thursday, though they say he was in his 40s.
The extent of injuries for others involved in the crash wasn't immediately clear.
Traffic in the area was blocked for several hours while emergency crews attended to the crashes.
