SNOWBIRD SKI AND SUMMER RESORT — An Illinois man died from a fall Wednesday while hiking in the Twin Peaks.

The 64-year-old man may have ridden the tram up the mountain and was hiking at Snowbird, Unified police detective Ken Hansen said.

The man sent his family a picture of the view at 7:44 p.m. Wednesday and wasn't heard from again, Hansen said.

Family members reported the man missing Friday morning when he missed a flight home. Unified police located a rental car the man had been using at a Snowbird parking lot and began searching. His body was located by a Department of Public Safety helicopter.

It appears the man fell about 400 feet down a steep, rocky grade, Hansen said. Police believe he fell shortly after texting his family on Wednesday evening.
