SOUTH JORDAN — A four-hour standoff with a SWAT team ended peacefully on Sunday after a man believed to be armed was taken into police custody.

South Jordan police spokesman Sam Winkler said officers were notified shortly before 1 p.m. that Kenneth John Perna-Rutsky, 34, had brandished a handgun during a dispute with his fiance at the San Marino Apartments near 700 West and 9800 South.

The woman had fled and contacted police after Perna-Rutsky allegedly put the gun to her head and threatened to shoot her. He then pointed the gun at himself and attempted suicide, but the weapon failed to fire, according to Winkler.

When officers responded, their attempts to contact Perna-Rutzky were unsuccessful.

"He wouldn’t answer his phone or the door or anything else," Winkler said.

Police evacuated approximately 40 neighboring apartment units and a SWAT team was called to the scene. The SWAT team entered the Perna-Rutsky's apartment at 4:45 p.m., at which point he surrendered peacefully and was transported to a hospital for evaluation, Winkler said.

He was later booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault.

It's always great to see patriots exercising their 2nd Amendment right to terrorize their fiance, neighborhood, and local police department.

Once again, please. How would a background check on my mother prevent this sort of thing?

Mr. Obama believes that if all Americans, except illegals have a background check, this would have been prevented. Pretty soon he will plan an event, complete with golfing and a Hollywood show. They will raise millions and he will be able to call Republicans un-American and in favor of such violence.
