LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — A 35-year-old man was found dead after he didn't return from a hike in the White Pine area on Friday.

A friend had received a text from the man, asking to be picked up at the trailhead at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, but the man never arrived and the friend called police.

The man had been hiking alone and left his vehicle in the Albion Basin area, according to Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. Helicopters searched the area until it was too dark, but did not locate the hiker and resumed the search Saturday morning.

At about 8 a.m. the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter assisting with the search located the man in White Pine Canyon. It appeared the man had fallen, as his body was at the base of a cliff, Hoyal said.

The man's name was not released pending notification of family and detectives are continuing the investigation into his death.
