U.S. News released its Best Children's Hospitals 2013-14 rankings Tuesday, highlighting 87 hospitals across the country that ranked in at least one of 10 specialties.

To rank the hospitals, U.S. News surveyed 179 pediatric centers to obtain clinical data on cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology, and asked 150 pediatric specialists in each area where they would send the sickest children.

Utah's Primary Children's Medical Center, located in Salt Lake City, ranked nationally in five pediatric specialties. Hospital CEO Katie Welkie told the Deseret News that while the report highlights areas in which the hospital is doing well, it also "helps identify places we can improve."

Here's a look at the 29 hospitals west of the Mississippi that made this year's list.
