Mormons in the NFL, 2013 season (31 items)
This is a list of 31 players in the National Football League this season who also happen to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A number of them have also served two-year missions.
If you know of a Mormon in the NFL we have missed, please send an email to email@example.com with the name of the player and his team.
1 of 31. Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah
Team: Detroit Lions
One year ago, the 6-foot-6, 270-pound defensive lineman from Ghana wasn't even starting at BYU.
Now the NFL rookie, the fifth overall pick in last year's draft, is chasing the top quarterbacks in the league for the Detroit Lions.
2 of 31. Matt Asiata
Team: Minnesota Vikings
Playing behind all-pro Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart, Asiata likely won't see a lot of playing time. But he made the regular season roster when most experts predicted he would be cut. This will be Asiata's third year in the NFL.
3 of 31. Mark Asper
Team: Buffalo Bills (practice squad)
Mission: Barcelona, Spain
Asper's short career has been an NFL odyssey. The 27-year-old from Idaho Falls, Idaho, was taken by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2012 draft. He was released by the Bills last summer so the team could put him on the practice squad but he was claimed off of waivers by Minnesota. This fall he spent training came with the Jacksonville Jaguars before returning to the Bills' practice squad. Buffalo likes Asper because he gives the team flexibility on the line at guard and center, according to buffalorumblings.com.
4 of 31. Brandon Bair
Team: Philadelphia Eagles (practice squad)
Mission: Jacksonville, Fla.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Bair from St. Anthony, Idaho, was given the last vacant spot on the eight-man Eagles' practice roster this season. Bair was undrafted out of Oregon in 2011 and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Oakland Raiders during the 2012 offseason. He spent time on the Raiders' practice squad last season and was released as part of the team's final cutdown last weekend.
5 of 31. Tony Bergstrom
Team: Oakland Raiders
Mission: Sacramento, Calif.
Unfortunately, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound Berstrom suffered a significant foot injury in late August and was placed on injured reserve.
Bergstrom is married to the former Jessica Kruger, sister of ex-Utah linemen Paul, Dave and Joe Kruger.
