Meet the 15 Utahns who will help represent the US at the Sochi Olympics (15 items)

Here is a quick look at the 15 homegrown Utah athletes, as defined by the USOC, who will be competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

1 of 15. Joss Christensen

Hometown: Park City

Sport: slopestyle ski

Fast fact: His first major win was the final Olympic Grand Prix in Park City three weeks ago. He has numerous podiums in competition and graduated from the Winter Sports School.

Day competing: Thursday, Feb. 13

2 of 15. Chris Fogt

Hometown: Alpine

Sport: Bobsled, push athlete

Fast fact: A member of the Army’s world-class athlete program, Fogt competed in 2010 Olympics with USA 2 and then served a year in Afghanistan, where he advanced to the rank of captain. He is married and expecting his first child in May.

Days competing: *Sunday, Feb. 16, and Monday, Feb. 17 (two man); Saturday Feb. 22, and Sunday, Feb. 23 (four man)

*Coaches decide if Fogt participates in two-man during the games. He and Steve Langton have shared runs with Holcomb this season with equal success.

3 of 15. Jared Goldberg

Hometown: Holladay

Sport: Alpine skiing

Fast fact: Feels his background as a freeskier helps him when the Alpine course gets rough. Grew up racing with the Snowbird Ski Team, but said he wasn’t serious until he was 15. Also played lacrosse at Skyline High.

Days competing: This is up to the coaches, but most likely he’ll compete in super combined on Friday, Feb. 14. Possibly men’s downhill Feb. 9.

Hometown: Salt Lake City

Sport: luge doubles

Fast fact: A graduate of Olympus High, Griffall competed in the 2006 Games but narrowly missed making the Olympic team in 2010.

Days competing: Wednesday, Feb. 12 (possible team event Feb. 13)

Hometown: Salt Lake City

Sport: snowboard cross

Fast fact: At 21, this is the former Brighton Bengal’s second Olympic experience. She finished 12th in the Vancouver Olympics and top eight in last year’s event on the Olympic course in Sochi. She got her start at Snowbird Ski Resort.

Days competing: Sunday, Feb. 16

It bugs me that the media always says that all these athletes are from Utah. While some are, most simply train here. Unless you graduated from a Utah high school (not a ski school, but a real school) or have lived here for more than half your life, you are not from Utah. We don't claim that John Stockton, Karl Malone, or Jerry Sloan are from Utah. They "lived" here too. It just bugs me.

There are 3 there that I can name I graduated High School with in Park City, and another that my cousin Graduated High School with in Salt lake City......... Which ones do you know that did not graduate high school in Utah?
