On March 21, fans of Jim Henson's popular puppets will gather in theaters to see "Muppets Most Wanted," the latest addition to the franchise's roster of films.

This installment stars Ty Burrell, of "Modern Family"; Tina Fey, known for her time on "Saturday Night Live"; and Ricky Gervais, a writer and producer known for "The Office."

But Burrell, Fey and Gervais aren't the first to take to the big screen — or small screen — with the Muppets.

Since "The Muppet Show" debuted in 1976, more than 100 different celebrities have made appearances in Muppet TV shows and movies.

Here is a look at some of the Muppets' memorable celebrity guests.

1 of 71. Juliet Prowse

Juliet Prowse was the first celebrity to guest star on "The Muppet Show," which debuted in 1976. Though she was one of the few guest participants not to appear with the Muppets during their closing act, she is one of two stars to receive a Muppet in her own likeness at the end of the show.
