THE UNFORGIVEN

Jazz draftee Dante Exum’s first trip to Utah was on Friday to meet the press. But his dad was here once, long ago.

Cecil Exum was at the Huntsman Center in 1981, playing for North Carolina, which beat Utah 61-56 in an NCAA basketball regional. He dressed but didn’t play.

“That was a game we needed to win,” Cecil Exum said.

After a pause, he chuckled, “Did we win?”

The next year he played with the national champion Tar Heels.

Asked about his long-ago trip to Salt Lake, the elder Exum had no details, but said, “I do remember it was my first and only trip to Utah — this is my second. I remember the mountains, seeing the lake and coming in and playing basketball, and then the hotels, and then back on the plane again.”

So that makes ONE person who doesn’t remember Karl Bankowski going 1 for 9 for the Utes.

1 of 6. PLACE IN THE SUN

Meanwhile, Dante Exum called Salt Lake “the city of Utah,” which is possibly a good thing.

Karl Malone did the same after being drafted in 1985.

Admittedly, it’s hard to know everything about a foreign place. But the real test starts when he hits the Jr. Jazz circuit and has to memorize places like Tooele, Escalante and Moroni.

2 of 6. BALANCING ACT

BYU football coach Bronco Mendenhall is suggesting a way to decide which college football teams break off to form their own division.

“The issue of 65 breaking off is all because of money,” he said on football media day. “Why not say nobody breaks off unless they are operating in the black?”

For that matter, why allow any state that’s losing money to vote in the general elections?

3 of 6. THANKS FOR SHARING

Sports Illustrated has a list of the top 100 tweeters in sports.

Spoiler alert: Jerry Sloan is not one of them.

4 of 6. THE LONG RUN

The University of California’s Alysia Montano ran the 800 meters in the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships — 8 ½ months pregnant.

“I’ve been running throughout my pregnancy and I felt really, really good during the whole process,” she told reporters.

Kind of ruins the excuse that a belly is keeping everyone else from getting in shape, doesn’t it?

5 of 6. CAREER PATH

Brad Dickson, Omaha World-Herald: “Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly recently told media, ‘We’re just not that good.’ I’m not sure what Mattingly plans to do when he leaves baseball, but we can rule out motivational speaking.”

TCU look good in their black uniform.
Utah Utes wear their RED proudly.
BYU continue to sing the blues.

Oh...the colors of college football...

The color of Pac-12 football will always be Red at the bottom.

The NFL ranked BYU's uniform #7 among the best looking uniforms in college football. Athlon Sports ranked BYU's helmut #4 among the best looking head gear in college football. Why in the world would BYU be singing the blues? BYU is among the Top Five most televised schools in the world.....and they look great!
