1. Bingham

2013 record: 14-0. 2013 playoffs: Beat Brighton 38-13 in 5A championship

Outlook: The defending 5A state champions return six defensive starters and two offensive starters as they begin the year ranked No. 1 in Utah for the fifth straight year. They went on to win the state title two of the previous four years.

1 of 24. 2. Timpview

2013 record: 13-1. 2013 playoffs: Beat East 33-28 in 4A championship

Outlook: The T-Birds were an offensive machine last season averaging 40.9 points en route to the 4A state championship. With QB Britain Covey back, expectations are again sky-high.

2 of 24. 3. Brighton

2013 record: 12-2. 2013 playoffs: Lost to Bingham 38-13 in 5A championship

Outlook: The Bengals lost numerous key starters from last year’s runner-up team, but senior Osa Masina is back, and the highly prized recruit is poised for a big year.

3 of 24. 4. Jordan

2013 record: 7-6. 2013 playoffs: Lost to Brighton 44-20 in 5A semifinals

Outlook: Jordan averaged 37.8 ppg last year but allowed a staggering 34.1 ppg. With seven offensive starters back — including senior Austin Kafentzis — and six defensive starters, the ’Diggers should be better on both sides of the ball in 2014.

4 of 24. 5. East

2013 record: 13-1. 2013 playoffs: Lost to Timpview 33-28 in 4A championship

Outlook: Despite graduating Mr. Football and five first-team all-staters, the Leopards have no shortage of talent, again led by Christian Folau and Lorenzo Manu, both first-teamers as well.

5 of 24. 6. Herriman

2013 record: 6-6. 2013 playoffs: Lost to Brighton 41-36 in 5A quarterfinals

Outlook: The Mustangs are a very talented team and could be poised for a breakout season with three returning starters on the offensive line, including top recruit Andre James.

So region 3 has three of the top 5 teams in the state....and region 4 has Herriman-Lone Peak-Pleasant Grove-Riverton making the playoffs with AF missing the mark again.

I am amazed that coach Peck at Bingham hasn't been snatched up by a college program. He was fantastic at Cyprus until Bingham stole him away, and he has made Bingham a farm team for top college prospects, and many of his players have even made it to the pros.

Bingham didn't steal him away. He was at Bingham in the 80's. Sudbury was from Magna and was getting ready to retire. Peck wanted to get back to Bingham and it made sense for them to just swap schools. Peck was an assistant under Sonny in the 80's. They didn't steal him away. He always wanted to return to Bingham.
