A month of celebrations: Birthdays of current LDS apostles (15 items)
August is a month of celebration for several of the apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Five of the 15 apostles celebrate their birthdays this month, beginning with Elder Perry's, which is today.
This year also marks Elder Perry's 40th year serving in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
In this list, learn when the apostles celebrate their birthdays and when they were called to their current positions in the LDS Church.
1 of 15. Elder L. Tom Perry
Elder Perry was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on April 6, 1974, after serving as an assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve for two years.
2 of 15. Elder Neil L. Andersen
Elder Andersen was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on April 1, 2009.
He previously served in the Quorum of the Seventy.
3 of 15. Elder Dallin H. Oaks
Elder Oaks was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in May 1984.
He was previously the President of Brigham Young University.
4 of 15. President Thomas S. Monson
President Monson has served as the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since Feb. 3, 2008.
He was called to serve as a counselor in the First Presidency on Nov. 10, 1985, and he was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Oct. 4, 1963.
5 of 15. Elder Robert D. Hales
Elder Hales was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on April 2, 1994.
He previously served as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.
